Hand-Poured Concrete Slab –BOHORICA

Hand-pouring the concrete slab at Bohorica, a land development project in Costa rica.

Concrete Slab

We recently completed the foundation, electrical, and plumbing routing and are now hand-pouring the new concrete slab for the new house at the Bohorica Jungle Project. One of the key elements of the project was the concrete mixture which has moisture resistant molecules to prevent absorption. This method is a simple and traditional approach that has been used for decades here in Costa Rica.

Solid concrete is the most effective way to create a strong and stable foundation for this type of building. It involves mixing concrete on-site, pouring it into a mold, and allowing it to set and cure over time. While it may seem like a primitive technique, it is ideal for Costa Rican construction, where weather conditions can be challenging, and materials and equipment may not be readily available or accessible to the site.

Building on a jungle property requires a foundation that can withstand the harshness of the environment. Hand-poured concrete is an excellent solution as it can resist moisture, termites, and other pests that are common in Costa Rica. It is also a sustainable choice, as it can be made with locally sourced materials and requires less energy than other construction methods. By utilizing this traditional technique, we have created a solid foundation for the Bohorica Project, ensuring that the new house will stand the test of time.
